Basco™® Hairpin Heat Exchangers

A hairpin design is often more thermally efficient than a traditional shell and tube, which results in a lower up-front cost and lower overall weight. Our experienced designers and engineers can meet any custom cooling requirement.

Materials

Carbon steel, 300 series stainless steel, Duplex stainless steel, copper alloy, chrome-moly alloys, Hastelloy, Inconel, Monel, 254 SMO, alloy clad/weld overlay.

Bundle Types

Separated Closure Double Pipe (Type SCDP)

  • Employs the industry's most widely used separated head features
  • Shell and tube side closures are separately bolted through - ideal for wide temperature or pressure differences
  • In cyclic service, separately gasketed closures are more leak resistant than shell and tube designs
  • Separate seal configuration makes the tube bundle easy to remove, clean and replace
  • Well suited for large imbalance of flow on shell side; long fins achieve high thermal performance with minimal pressure drop
Type SCDP Separated Closure Hairpin

Common Closure Hairpin (Type CC)

  • Single bolted closure design - ideal for low design temperature or pressure differences
  • Center ring keeps the shell gasket seated during tube head removal for inspection or service
Type CC Common Closure Hairpin

All-Welded Hairpin (Type AW)

  • More cost effective when a removable bundle is not required; fixed tubesheet design

Jacketed Pipe (Type JP)

  • Most economical solution for any heat transfer application; fixed tubesheet design

Codes & Certifications

Basco™ heat exchangers are designed and manufactured to comply with a wide variety of international codes and standards, including:

  • EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED)
  • Chinese Safety Quality License
  • Australian Pressure Vessel Code AS1210
  • Singapore Pressure Vessel Code
  • DOSH Malaysian Pressure Vessel Code
  • Canadian Registration Number (CRN)
  • Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR)
  • Polish UDT Code
  • API 614, 660, 618

Performance Notes

  • Ideal for applications that require high thermal performance and a compact footprint
  • True countercurrent flow enables close temperature approach and temperature cross
  • Removable bundles available in separated or common closure options for cleaning
  • Non-removable bundles offer cost-effective fixed tubesheet option
  • Wide temperature differentials are handled without an expansion joint
  • Long radius U-bend for ease of maintenance
  • All connections at one end
  • Sizes up to 60 in. (150 cm) diameter and 480 in. (1200 cm) length
  • Designed and fabricated per ASME, TEMA, CRN, PED, CML
